World No. 3, Carlos Alcaraz, demolished Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round of the Australian Open, winning 6-0, 6-1, 6-4. Alcaraz maintained an outstanding level of play, neutralizing any attempts from his opponent. He now awaits the winner of the match between local Jordan Thompson and Nuno Borges.

Alcaraz continues his strong run at the 2025 Australian Open. This time, his victim was No. 63 in the world, Yoshihito Nishioka, who had reached the second round after defeating a qualifier.

Alcaraz crushes Nishioka

In the first set, the Spanish No. 1 was virtually untouchable, conceding just 4 points throughout the entire set. Alcaraz dominated his service games and capitalized on all three break opportunities granted by his opponent, sealing the first set 6-0.

In the second set, it took Nishioka until the fourth game to hold his serve. With Alcaraz leading 4-1, things continued to be tough for the Japanese player, who lost his serve once more, leaving him with no chances against the Roland Garros champion. In 43 minutes, Carlitos was already up 6-0, 6-1.

The third set was more of the same, though Nishioka showed a glimmer of hope by winning his first service games and, at times, imposing his game. Alcaraz remained incredibly confident on his serve, with a 62% first serve percentage, winning 89% of points with his first serve and 73% with his second, a true steamroller. Additionally, he didn't give up a single break point throughout the match.

The Spanish player broke his opponent's serve in the fifth game, essentially sealing the match at that point. Despite his efforts, Nishioka couldn't maintain the pace, and Alcaraz secured a comfortable win.

It was 6-4 in the third set and a spot in the third round for Alcaraz, who keeps his dream alive of winning the major that would make him the youngest player to win a Grand Slam career title.
