Norway’s
Casper Ruud achieved an impressive milestone with his
latest win in the ongoing Barcelona Open. The 25-year-old is going through an
impressive season and he continued his great run in the ongoing ATP 500
event in Barcelona where he defeated Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight
sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
While doing so, he has now registered the most wins in the ATP
Tour this season with 26 triumphs to his name. He overtook Italy’s Jannik
Sinner who was leading the race with 25 victories. However, interestingly,
despite all those wins, Ruud has not been able to win a title this season. His
previous outing before the Barcelona Open was in Monte-Carlo Masters where he lost
to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
It was his third defeat in the final of an ATP event this
season. Previously, he lost in the final of the event in Los Cabos to Australia’s
Thompson in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6. After that, he lost in the
final of the Mexican Open to Australia’s Alex de Minaur in straight sets with a
score of 6-4, 6-4. Ruud will now face Matteo Arnaldi in the quarterfinal of the
Barcelona Open. The Italian tennis star defeated Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti
in the last-16 clash in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
