Casper Ruud wins 2021 Generali Open Kitzbuhel

Casper Ruud played another final and he won another final by defeating Pedro Martinez in Kitzbuhel 6-1 4-6 6-3.

It was a very long day for both Ruud and Martinez in Kitzbuhel as the duo started their match late in the afternoon. After the first set concluded the match got suspended due to rain. A few hours later it started only to be suspended 10 minutes later once again due to rain. Then a couple of hours more passed and players finally took to the courts a little after 22:00 local time.

The first set was won by Ruud in a very convincing fashion 6-1. Martinez did not look good at all on the court and far too many mistakes and generally slow movement cost him severely. He had been playing a lot of tennis this week and that impacted him.

When the player returned late at night Martinez looked much better and fresher and it showed. He was winning service games easily and three bad mistakes by Ruud late in the set gifted him 3 set points. He used them to send it to the 3rd set. That was warning enough for Ruud who took things seriously and came out strong in the 3rd.

He took an early break and then added another one to give himself a 5-1 lead practically sealing the match in his favour. With the win, Ruud completed the hattrick winning Bastad, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel in 3 consecutive weeks. His winning streak now sits at 12 and this is his 5th career title and 4th in 2021.
