"This win is for Roger Federer and Martina Hingis" said Bencic after winning Gold Medal

Belinda Bencic won the Gold Medal at the Tokyo Olympics adding to the Swiss tally of Medals that include medals won by Federer and Hingis.

It was a glorious day for Swiss tennis and Belinda Bencic. She defeated Marketa Vondrousova in a very exciting match winning the Gold Medal for herself and her country. It's not the first Gold Medal Switzerland won in tennis but neither Federer nor Hingis won it in singles. Bencic did and dedicated it to them:

"Roger wrote to me today. He said this is the perfect day to reach my dreams. I was really happy about that, and he was absolutely right. He's incredible in that way. He really supports all the Swiss players – it's incredible the support I receive from Roger, and this win is for him."

Bencic was extremely proud of her achievement explaining that she would happy if she never won a match again:

“If I end my career now without winning any additional matches, then I would still be happy. What I have reached today no one can take away from me. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who made this happen.”

However, for Bencic the journey is not over yet. She and Viktorija Golubic will contest the Women's doubles final tomorrow so she has a chance to win double gold. On that she said:

“It's unbelievable to have two medals – one gold already, one still to be decided. I will fight with Viki and enjoy the moment because really it is the memories that last forever.”
