Rick Macci, the ex-coach of the former world number one
Serena Williams, believes that Germany’s tennis star
Alexander Zverev has an
opportunity to start the new era of the ‘Big Three’ in men’s tennis.
The former Big Three consisted of Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic, former world number one Rafael Nadal, and 20-time Grand
Slam winner Roger Federer.
Zverev is currently participating in the
French Open, where he has booked his place in the final after beating Norway’s Casper
Ruud in the semifinal with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
He is set to face the world number three
Carlos Alcaraz, who beat the newly crowned world number one
Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller
in the last-four clash with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Macci, in a post on his official account on the social media
platform X—previously known as Twitter—stated that Zverev has an opportunity to start the new era of the ‘Big Three’, comprised of himself, Alcaraz, and Sinner, who are regarded as the two best players in the men’s singles
category.
“Zverev can make a cameo for the third spot as a member of
the big three with a win in the finals. Sinner is not going anywhere as
determined. Alcaraz is not going anywhere as determined. Zverev is still going
some where be determined. @carlosalcaraz,” he wrote.
Alexander Zverev defeated Norway's Casper Ruud in the semifinal of the French Open.
Zverev is having an impressive season. He played in the
semifinal of the Australian Open, where he lost to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with
a score of 5-7, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-3.
He then lost in the semifinal of the Los Cabos Open to
Australia’s Jordan Thompson with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. Zverev then lost in
the semifinal of the Miami Open to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov with a score of
6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
His only title this
season came just before the French Open, as he won the Rome Open after beating
Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5.
