Frenchman Corentin Moutet saw his Adelaide campaign come to an abrupt end on Wednesday, as he was forced to default a match at the ATP Adelaide International.
Moutet was engaged in a second round battle with Laslo Djere, with both players tied at one set apiece. However, it was reported that Moutet was heard saying “F**k you” towards the umpire several times in annoying over a series of calls he made. It is understood that prior to the outburst, he had been annoyed by the behavior of his opponent.
After winning the first set 6-4, Moutet then had a 4-2 lead in the second before being broken and eventually losing the set. His frustration reached a boiling point during the final game of the second set where he held a 40-0 lead before losing five points in a row. It was at this stage when he started to swear towards the direction of the umpire’s chair.
Subsequently, both players left the court for a toilet break. When Moutet returned the umpire called over the tournament supervisor before disqualifying him for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct.’ This default loss ensures that the World No.92 will lose his second round prize money.
Although he remained silent about the decision after the match, Moutet did take to Instagram with a cryptic post, writing "Different rules, different person. They’ll treat me good when they’ll need me."
