Croatia defeated Poland in the second tie at the 2020 ATP Cup and lead Group E after the fourth day in Sydney.
The players from Croatia had a really fast start at the
ATP Cup when they defeated Austria 3-0. In the second tie of
Group E, they faced Poland and had a chance to add the second point.
Marin Cilic opened the day in Sydney successfully when he defeated Kacper Zuk after two sets. The Croatian had to spend more than 2 hours on the court, but in the end, he secured a 7-6, 6-4 victory to put his team into the lead.
In the second match, the hero from the first tie, Borna Coric who defeated world number 4, Dominic Thiem, faced Hubert Hurkacz. World number 37 seemed to be a very big obstacle for the Croatian when Hurkacz triumphed after 72 minutes 6-2, 6-2 and forced the decisive match in doubles.
Experienced doubles duo, Dodig & Mektic faced Hurkacz & Kubot. It was a quick win for Croatia when Dodig & Mektic dominated the match. In an hour, they have won the match 6-2 and 6-1 and put their country in the lead of Group E after two days.
Marin Cilic was happy with his performance when he said: "The level was very good again. Good serving. Today, if I have to pick some things that I need to do better, it's just converting breakpoints. I had a lot of them. But otherwise, I felt that the level was quite good. I was being aggressive."
