The popular adage "Like father, like son" must run deep in the Hewitt family, as Cruz Hewitt, son of former World No.1 and Australian legend
Lleyton Hewitt, secured his first ATP point this week.
Hoping to emulate his father's achievements, the 15-year old has embraced a professional tennis career and competed at the M15 Juniors in Bali, Indonesia. The younger Hewitt defeated World No.993 Thijmen Loof, recording an emphatic 6-4 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes. Hewitt received a wild card in Bali, entering the main draw of his first professional tournament after failing to pass the qualifying stage at five home Futures in Australia.
Cruz earns maiden ATP point following victory
The youngster claimed back-to-back J200 junior titles in Sydney in the previous weeks. Emboldened by his performance, Cruz put on a stellar display as he took on his Dutch opponent. Although the pair exchanged early breaks at the start of each set, it was Hewitt who maintained his composure. The son of the two-time Grand Slam champion was able to acquire the crucial break, enabling him to record his first professional victory.
By virtue of his win in Bali, Cruz Hewitt will officially make his debut on the ATP Ranking board. Although the 15-year old has his work cut out for him should he try to emulate his father, his first victory is sure to boost his confidence going forward.
