Daniil Medvedev avenged Halle defeat to Struff by defeating him 3-1 in the first round of
Wimbledon 6-4 6-1 4-6 7-6(3).
It was a very good first-round matchup between Daniil Medvedev and Jan-Lennard Struff as the German once again gave Medvedev a run for his money. Medvedev came out very strong in this matchup learning from his mistakes from the Halle match which Struff won.
Medvedev was able to take control early and he won the first set with 6-4. Struff was rattled after dropping the first set and Medvedev quickly used that to go up 2-0 with a quick 6-1 2nd set finish. The 3rd set featured much better play from Struff who held his serve with ease.
Medvedev played one bad game midway through the set and Struff never looked back after breaking Medvedev. He won the 3rd set with 6-4 and it seemed like the German might have momentum on his side. However, Medvedev remained calm and continued playing his game.
Struff had to save several break points in the set and every time he did it very efficiently. Medvedev showed some frustration but he calmed himself down in time for the tiebreak which proved key. Proving the better player Medvedev won it with 7-3 to move on.
