Coco Gauff had some trouble against the native Francesca Jones who put up a good fight but ultimately lost 7-5 6-4.
Coco Gauff kicked off her Wimbledon campaign with a strong win over native player Jones who fought Well. Coco did not play her best tennis but it was enough to overcome Jones who played really well in front of native fans. Gauff was spectacular on her own serve not allowing much.
She only lost several points on her own serve, but Jones handled her pressure fairly well for the entire first set. It was only late that Gauff managed to break through and she did winning the set 7-5.
The 2nd set featured strong play by both players as Jones came close several times to force a break point which ultimately she never did. Gauff was able to take control of the match midway through to the set and from there it was easy for her to serve it out.
All in all, a good start for Gauff against a tricky player who was playing better than she normally does thanks to playing on native soil and in front of fans.
