Daniil Medvedev books Astana Open quarter-final over Ruusuvuori

Medvedev played another solid match to defeat Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3 6-2 and move on to the quarterfinals of the event.

The Russian played a very solid match to defeat a tricky player who was playing really well leading up to this match. Medvedev also showed a high level of confidence in his play just two days after admitting to not feeling as confident as he did earlier this year.

Getting back there will take some time but wins like this should signal to him that all his class is still there it's just about doing it over and over again. An early break in this match certainly set the tone right for the Russian who would eventually add another break to finish off the opening set 6-3.

He was really strong in the first set dropping only a handful of points on his serve and Ruusuvuori largely struggled on his serve. The second set opened with an early break for Medvedev once more but this time around Ruusuvuori also got a break to make it 2-2.

It was enough warning for Medvedev to snap out of it and take things seriously and he did. One break later we were at 4-2 for the Russian and another break made it 6-2 for him as he booked a place in the quarterfinal. Overall a very solid win and a match against Bautista Agut set. The Spaniard beat him in Mallorca on grass earlier this year.
