Daniil Medvedev had very few issues against
Albert Ramos in Astana beating the Spaniard 6-3 6-1 to get his campaign underway.
Medvedev remains the highest ranked player in the event as Alcarza lost earlier today and he certainly played like a top seed. He's always been a very good indoor player while Ramos wasn't and it showed today. The Russian broke in the opening game and pretty much cruised to a 6-3 finish.
He did face one break point along the way but he saved it adding another break later to win the set. He served aggressively from the start and it worked as he gave up only 3 points behind his first serve. The second set was even more impressive from Medvedev who crushed Ramos from the baseline.
He was everywhere on the court hitting winners from both sides and Ramos managed only one game won on his serve as he bowed out 1-6 in the second set. A very impressive first match from Medvedev who looks in great shape after several disappointing weeks on the Tour.
