Daniil Medvedev started off his
Madrid Open campaign with a win beating Vavassori in two simple sets 6-3 6-4 continuing his good form lately.
Medvedev will find Madrid quite a bit more enjoyable than other tennis courts because at least here the ball flies rather fast compared to other courts. He has had some decent showings in Madrid in the past and he made a winning start this year. Taking on an in-form Vavassori, Medvedev was able to keep the match in two sets and advance.
Both sets saw the Italian play fairly decently but Medvedev patiently waited for his chance knowing that it would come. On his own serve, the Russian was largely unbothered in the second set while having to save three break points in the opening set. He had 23 winners overall and only 7 unforced errors showing a pretty good approach to the match itself.
