Daniil Medvedev secures ATP Finals semifinal spot with win over Zverev

A brilliant match between Medvedev and Zverev unfolded today in Turin with the former securing a well-earned victory 6-3 6-7(3) 7-6(6).

It was a brilliant match between some of the best tennis player we have right now. Medvedev and Zverev faced off about 10 days after the Russian smashed Zverev in Paris. Today, the German was much better and initially he was the better one. He had early break points and a lot of them but he failed to use either. Medvedev used his lone one and he that proved more than enough.

He served out the first set with 6-3 moving on to the 2nd. The 2nd set was a very entertaining one where Medvedev dominated on his own serve. Zverev was not able to win a single point for a long time before finally winning a few points on return. The German had a lot of issues on his own serve as well having to battle Medvedev in a few tight games.

Ultimately Zverev was able to hold on and fend off any break points he faced. In the tiebreak, he played much better thanks to more focused play than Medvedev who was aloof. Zverev won it with 7-3 injecting himself with energy and confidence for the 3rd set. Zverev played rather well in that 3rd set holding his serve more comfortably than before.

Medvedev was not rattled either so he was able to win his service games as well. He had to save a break point very late in the match that could have won it for Zverev but the serve was on point. Ultimately in the tiebreak both showed some nerves and committed a few cheap errors. It was Medvedev who proved calmer to win it 8-6 and move on to the semifinals.
