As The Weeknd song goes Blinding Lights,
Daniil Medvedev had it literally during his win over
Roberto Carballes Baena, but he managed to surge through still 6-2, 6-3 to conclude the night action at the 2024
Indian Wells Open.
Medvedev has secured a third round clash with a certain Sebastian Korda albeit after having an issue during his match in which a light in the top of the roof kept blinking and blinding him which meant that the Russian had to complain to the umpire and a delay was caused.
This was when he was en route to winning, but eventually he got over the line. It wouldn't be a Daniil Medvedev without some drama though of course, but instead of being with a member of the crowd for instance, it was an inanimate object.
Taking down Carballes Baena, it was a 1 hour 24 minute win and very much routine. The opening set saw both ease through their service games until Medvedev took control and broke to make it 4-2. He broke again to seal the set with RCB not able to garner a single break point opportunity.
Medvedev did lose his serve amid the distractions with Carballes Baena making it 4-3 down in the second set after going 4-1 down initially. But Medvedev hit back immediately and held serve pretty comfortably to seal the win. Next up is Korda for Medvedev and hopefully without any sort of blinking lights.
