Defending champion
Cameron Norrie was unable to defend his
Los Cabos Open trophy as Daniil Medvedev proved better in the final.
It was a convincing win for Medvedev who served a 2nd set bagel to Norrie but the Brit collapsed at that point. He gave everything he had in the first set but ultimately it was not enough as Medvedev was able to take the set 7-5. The Russian had a break up twice but Norrie fought back each time. Still wasn't enough:
"I fought as hard as I could do, but
Daniil was too good. Well done to you and your team.
You definitely deserve it this week. I
just want to say a big thank you to everyone for supporting me. I love
playing in Mexico and that is the reason why I come back. I really feel
good here."
Norrie and Medvedev actually practised together at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in the south of France after Wimbledon and played a couple of heated matches. It seems like Medvedev was able to pull a Djokovic with that proving better. Norrie will make his way to Canada where he will hope to keep up the good play as he tries to collect enough points to play at the ATP Finals.
