The Belgian player has had a very rough time recently with things going sideways in Halle last year. Goffin injured his knee and his return to tennis since then was a slow and painful ride. Many disappointing outings and many defeats later, Goffin is an ATP Champion again. It was a tough week, one that featured many hours spent on the court but it will be worth it.
This final victory was another tricky one. Molcan came out strong in the first set taking an early lead and despite Goffin playing rather well, the Slovakian was in control. It was a disappointing result for Goffin as Molcan did not serve well at all and not using that to his advantage was a big problem for Goffin. It looked even worse early on in the 2nd set as Molcan jumped out to a 2-0 lead and he looked very comfortable as he marches towards his first ATP trophy.
Well, Goffin had clearly other plans as the Belgian once again proved how good he can be in finals. He rarely drops finals and did not drop this one either. He first battled back and then added a break as well winning five games in row 5-2. He closed out the 2nd set with 6-3. Upping his level even more in the final set Goffin cruised to a 6-3 finish to win the trophy.
