David Goffin wins Open Sud de France in Montpellier

David Goffin came back against Roberto Bautista Agut to win the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, his first trophy in over a year.

It was a stellar week of tennis for David Goffin who concluded it today with his best performance yet against Roberto Bautista Agut. It took him just over two hours to defeat the Spaniard 5-7 6-4 6-2. The first set was a very competitive one with Goffin playing well early but even so, he found himself down 1-3. He would continue to play well and eventually tie it up. Late in the set, he would struggle on his serve which allowed Bautista to win the opening set 7-5.

The 2nd set was a similar one but this time it was Goffin who struck first taking the lead 2-0. He would mostly focus on his own play especially when serving in order to preserve the lead which he did. In the end, he won the set 6-4 not allowing Bautista a single break point. Lifted by that strong performance he started playing even better in the final set with Roberto feeling his fitness fail him. For him, it was key to keep the match short and as he failed to do so he fell off a cliff in the final set.

Goffin dominated it from start to finish winning it 6-2. A very strong performance by Goffin especially towards the end of the match which won him his first trophy in over a year. Congratulations.
