Team USA produced a stunning result as they booked their place in
the next round after beating Slovakia. The team competition is moving towards
the final stages where players are giving their all to secure the ultimate
prize.
One of the big results on the day was the team USA's defeat of Slovakia to book their sport in the next round. A depleted USA side, without any of the big names, managed to stun Slovakia’s side, which was confident of going to the next round. In the first singles encounter, Mackenzie McDonald defeated Lukas Klein in straight sets with a score
of 6-4, 6-3.
In the second singles encounter, Brandon Nakashima defeated Jozef
Kovalik in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles event, Austin
Krajicek and Rajeev Ram defeated the pair of Norbert Gombos and Lukas Klein in
straight sets with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 10-1.
In another significant result on the day, team Argentina stunned
Great Britain to cement their spot in the next round with a score of 2-1. In
the doubles category, Britain’s Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski defeated the pair
of Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni with a score of 6-3, 7-5. In
the first singles event, Francisco Cerundolo stunned young Jack Draper, who was
coming into the competition on the back of an impressive US Open, where he
played in the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-5. In the other
singles event, Tomas Martin Etcheverry came out on top against Evans
in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
In the other results on the day, a depleted Italy side defeated
Belgium with a score of 2-1. Matteo Berrettini won the singles tie against Alexander
Blockx, whereas Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori defeated the pair of Sander
Gille and Joran Vliegen in straight sets. Tournament favourite Spain defeated France
with a score of 2-1 as well.
