Austria has been recently exploring a surge in COVID-19 cases which has prompted the government to impose strict new rules.
The rules impose a new lockdown in the coutnry that should last several weeks while all imposing a mandatory vaccination program to be fully enforced by February of next year. The decision for a strict lockdown comes only days before the 2021 Davis Cup was set to take place in the Austrian city of Innsbruck but it won't affect the event.
A spokesperson for Kosmos Tennis, the organizer of the event said:
"The organisers in Austria are currently meeting with local government to find out how this may affect COVID-19 restrictions for the event. As it stands now, however, we can confirm that the event will go ahead."
Innsbruck is one of the host cities of the 2021 Davis Cup Finals alongside Madrid and Turin. Innsbruck's Olympiaworld venue is hosting the Group C and Group F ties, starting with Thursday's clash between France and the Czech Republic. It will also host a quarter-final. Obviously, with the new lockdown rules, there won't be any spectators attending.
