Fritz served to close out the match and converted his fifth championship point, sealing the victory 6-4 in the second set. The win gives the American another title in Washington and adds momentum heading into the rest of the North American hard-court season. Fritz guaranteed travel to Toronto as world No. 9 and America's No. 1 - while Jodar is guaranteed a career-high ranking of world No. 15.
For the Spaniard, the final capped an outstanding tournament run and represented another important step in his rapid development. The 19-year-old showed he can compete against top-level opponents on a major stage, but Fritz’s consistency and experience proved too much in the decisive moments.
