Last year's Rotterdam Open champion Auger-Aliassime had no issues in his first match back at the event beating Sonego comfortably in two sets 6-2 6-3.
Auger-Aliassime was brilliant indoors last year and this win continues that impressive streak. He's always been a fairly decent indoor player but last year he finally started winning trophies on the surface. Rotterdam was one of the events he won and the title defence started well. Sonego is a tricky player who can do a lot of damage on his day but this wasn't one of those days.
Auger once again demonstrated his deadly serve hitting six aces in the first set and adding four more winners to give him 10 overall. It was twice as much for the Canadian who got the first 6-2. The second set was a bit more competitive as Sonego played more aggressive tennis. He had two more winners than in the first set but Auger was once again too good.
Once he got the break, it was over because he didn't give too many chances to his opponent. The serve worked again with seven aces giving him 13 in total. He dropped only five points behind his first serve and saved both break points. Just too solid.
