Juan Martin Del Potro had a stellar career but if the Argentinian had a bit more luck with injuries his career could have been even better.
When Juan Martin Del Potro defeated Roger Federer in the US Open final many believed a new star was born. And it was yet that star had some of the worst luck with injuries in tennis. That is according to Toni Nadal who counts himself among the fans of the Argentinian. Speaking about him Nadal said:
“He had everything to succeed. I think he would have achieved enormous successes, fighting face to face with the Big 3 and with [Andy] Murray. His shots are tremendous, he is very consistent, and he had a magnificent mental predisposition to compete."
Nadal also can't quite remember a tennis player with worse injury lukc than Del Potro saying:
“He has been the one who has had the most bad luck in tennis because he has been playing with problems for many years. Everything he has achieved has enormous merit because it is very difficult to compete when he is not quite well physically.”
Del Potro is currently preparing to return to tennis as he has been training on the court for several months. The latest comeback attempt comes after prolonged knee issues and another surgery earlier in the year. Hopefully, he will be able to come back and compete in the way Andy Murray is currently competing.
