Denis Shapovalov determined to revive season at Indian Wells

Denis Shapovalov is determined to return to form in Indian Wells after several disappointing results in the past few months.

Denis Shapovalov played an exceptional Wimbledon reaching the semifinal and playing a solid match against eventual winner Novak Djokovic. Since then, his season took a turn for the worse with the Canadian putting forward disappointing result after disappointing result. That is why he is looking for a big showing in Indian Wells at the BNP Paribas Open.

Speaking ahead of the event he said:

“It's definitely great to be back at Indian Wells. Obviously, a little bit different playing it in October but it's definitely great to still be in the States during this part of the season – definitely much closer to travel to. [It’s] really hot conditions, which I think can suit my game, [so I’m] looking forward to the tournament.”

Shapovalov has fond memories of Indian Wells having reached the semifinal here in 2019 which propelled him into the top 20 initially. Remember that he said:

“It’s been a while since that time frame. It's a little bit weird being back here because it's kind of where everything started. Definitely, I feel like a completely different player coming into the event this year, for sure, a lot more experience, a lot more relaxed on the court."

Shapovalov is currently 15th in the ATP Race for Turin still fighting for a spot at the Finals. A strong result in Indian Wells would aid him greatly in that pursuit.
