America’s young tennis star
Ben Shelton once again showcased
his signature celebration move after winning his first
Laver Cup match.
The 20-year-old is part of the Team World in the Laver Cup
2023 and defeated Team Europe’s Arthur Fils in the opening fixture of the
competition in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1.
Following the result that gave Team World the winning start
in the competition, Shelton repeated his signature celebration.
The Atlanta-born explained to his team captain John McEnroe about his
celebration by stating: "Dialled in. That's what we call that. We're dialled in,
Johnny Mac!"
Shelton’s celebration came became a major talking point in
the world of tennis after he suffered a defeat against Serbia’s legendary star Novak
Djokovic in the US Open.
The 36-year-old repeated the move of the youngster after
securing a win in the semifinal of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6.
Following that, Shelton’s father was unimpressed with the
reaction of the 24-time Grand Slam winner.
The current world number 19 is now set to play in a double
encounter in the competition where he along with Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime
will take on the pair of Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and France’s Gael Monfils.
