Cameron Norrie opted out of competing at the Olympics Games to try and collect more points ahead of the US Open where he might be seeded.
Cameron Norrie has enjoyed a very good season with his results on clay especially impressive. The British player collected a lot of points on the clay swing which gave him an opportunity to be seeded at the US Open. The British player is in range to do so but as he needed more points he opted to skip the Olympics to try and get more
He said:
"It's very nice to represent your country, obviously, but with the schedule problems the opportunity to get points, due to quarantine, were limited."
The Olympic Games obviously don't offer any points and for Norrie getting better and improving his position on the rankings was more important. He underlined that it was the right decision saying he wants to better prepare for the US Open.
"I think this was better, get ready for the US Open, prioritize that. It was a difficult decision but I enjoy coming to Mexico and playing here, by these beaches."
