A big theme of the 2023
Wimbledon Championships like most tournaments as of late surrounded scheduling, but in terms of granting what
Novak Djokovic among others want with an earlier start time, it could take a while.
Djokovic and
Andy Murray spoke out after the 1:30pm BST time came under fire due to matches not finishing and others struggling to stay within the curfew.
Murray in particular had to come back against Stefanos Tsitsipas and went onto lose against the Greek proving it to be a bad decision. While Djokovic played multiple night matches so knew too well about the late finishes.
It won't be discussed though till the annual spring press conference in nine months heading into the lead up to Wimbledon.
Play is currently only allowed to go on until 11pm at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club due to local curfews which are unlikely to be changed.
But in the case of the start time, it is something which could be shifted an hour back to match the outside courts. Albeit it has been a tradition for a number of years with Wimbledon looking to stick with that.
But with the change to help Women's players with the removal of all-white clothing and a new team behind the scenes, it could see tradition ripped up again.
“I think so. I agree with that,” Djokovic said at the time. “Obviously curfew is probably something that is much more difficult to change, I understand, because of the community and the residential area we are in. I think the matches could be pushed at least to start at 12:00. I think it would make a difference.”
