Novak Djokovic overcame a slow start against Hubert Hurkacz to book a spot in the Paris Masters final 3-6 6-0 7-6(5).
Novak Djokovic entered his semifinal matchup against Hurkacz in a somewhat nervous fashion. The Serbian did not look as sharp as in previous days and his shots were a bit off. Even so, Djokovic did not allow a single break point until fairly late in the match. Hurkacz for the most part served rather well and Djokovic was not able to return as good as he wanted to.
The first break point Djokovic had was when Hurakcz served for the opening set at 5-3. The Serbian had a decent chance in the rally but a mistake cost him the point. A few more lost him in the game and the set 3-6. His comeback was tremendous as Djokovic did not waste any time getting right to the point. He broke Hurkacz for the early 2-0 lead.
The lead became a 4-0 lead and a 6-0 finish to the set. The 3rd set started off with Hurkacz being able to hang on but very soon Djokovic was able to establish himself as the more consistent player. The key fact in the match was that from the baseline Djokovic won twice as many points as Hurkacz. Every time the rally developed, Djokovic had a clear advantage.
At 2-4, Hurkacz labored for a 30-15 lead in the game on Djokovic's serve and a double fault by Djokovic gave the Pole two consecutive break points. The Pole converted the first one and level the score at 4-4. Djokovic would have a match at 5-4 but Hurkacz was able to save it. The match was decided in the tiebreak where Djokovic proved a bit more solid winning 7-5.
