The Serbian is the best tennis player at the moment and such a position makes him one of the biggest ambassadors of the game. Many hoped he would be an example to others by getting vaccinated early in order to persuade others to do so. Reluctant at first, Djokovic elected to keep the matter private, at least until the Australian Open, a vaccine-mandated event.
If Djokovic shows up he is vaccinated and if he doesn't he isn't. Australian Open Craig Tiley confirmed that and also admitted that all of this criticism to Djokovic seems unfair. In an interview with CODE, he said:
“In many ways, it was a bit unfair to Novak. He said his medical information was private and confidential. He's won the Australian Open nine times, which is truly remarkable. Of his 20 Grand Slam titles, almost half have been won here."
Tiley further said that Djokovic has a right to keep things private:
"I spent a lot of time with him… I fully understand his point of view, his medical situation is personal and he has the right to keep it to himself. He will unveil shortly, this position."
