Schwartzman, ranked at No. 13 in the world, won his lone title at the beginning of the season in Buenos Aires also ending runner-up in Antwerp.
Diego Schwartzman had a very interesting year in 2021 that he described as great. He won one title while finishing runner up in Antwerpen once more but the Argentine was content with it. Talking to the ATPTour.com Spanish website he said:
"2021 was a great year for me ... I hope I can continue doing it. Schwartzman's best result at the Grand Slam level in 2021 came at the French Open, where he made the quarterfinal. I enjoy the fact of playing, luckily in recent years I have done well in the big tournaments. Sometimes when a Grand Slam tournament comes around and maybe you have to defend the quarterfinals, you say: 'How many points do I have to defend!"
Speaking on his goals moving forward Schwartzman simply said he hopes to continue the way he has been playing recently which should allow him to stay at the top. He said:
"My goal is to stay within the top-15 or 20. I am very happy to start playing tennis here. I am very grateful to be here for the appointment of the Central Court. It is very special, I try to enjoy the moment. It’s a beautiful club, a beautiful country. It’s very special to me."
