Novak Djokovic was perfect in his first day at the ATP Cup lifting Serbia to victories in both singles and doubles.
It was a phenomenal first day for Djokovic at the ATP Cup who won his singles matches against Shapovalov before pairing up with Krajinovic to win the doubles tie as well. He continued on his rampage last year which saw win every match he participated in, so he is now a perfect 10/10 at the ATP Cup. Even so, he was humble in victory saying Filip Krajinovic was the key in doubles:
"Filip Krajinovic was the key. The way he played today is phenomenal. He came out [with] very solid returning. He found his serve, great rhythm. [He] just played some really key shots in the second set when we needed it the most."
It was not an easy task especially against Shapovalov who played rather well so it took Novak almost two hours to win his match against Shapovalov. Novak admitted as much saying:
"It was a very close match. Playing Shapo is always a great challenge on hard courts. He's such a dynamic, explosive player; very talented. I thought we played on a very high level, so I'm really pleased with how I've started the season. This is the best way to kickstart the season, playing for your country.”
In the end, Novak thanked the fans for the atmosphere calling it a blessing to play in front of crowds again:
"We don't get to see crowds in the tennis stadiums these days so much, so it's definitely a blessing. I'm really grateful to see you guys here in the stands."
