Serbia’s Novak Djokovic continued his great run at Wimbledon and secured his spot in the quarterfinals of the competition.
The 36-year-old defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in four sets in the round of 16 clash with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 on Monday.
The victory means that Djokovic will now be playing in his sixth consecutive quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
In the first set, both players managed to hold their serve but the world number two eventually came out on top in the tiebreaker. In the process, he won 86 percent of service points.
The second set was more of a replica of the first one where the 23-time Grand Slam winner came out on top once again on a tiebreaker. In the process, he ended up winning 78 percent of service points.
In the third set, Hurkacz managed to stay alive in the contest and finally broke the service of his opponent in the 12th match, eventually sealing the set with a score of 7-5.
However, the seven-time Wimbledon winner came back strongly in the fourth set and secured a thumping win to stay on course to equal Roger Federer’s tally of eight Grand Slam wins on the grass court.
Djokovic will now face Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the Wimbledon’s quarterfinal clash on Tuesday.
