Novak Djokovic is through to the 2nd week of
Roland Garros after defeating Ricardas Berankis in straight sets.
The world number one put forward a great performane on court Philippe Chatrier defeating Berankis 6-1 6-4 6-1. The Serbian came out furious in the match playing his signature game centered around his stelar return. Berankis did not serve well and Djokovic was able to take advantage of that. Berankis won just 7 of 17 points on his serve losing it twice.
Djokovic won the set 6-1 and we went to the 2nd set. The 2nd set was a strong one by both players as Berankis was able to hold off Djokovic for the most part. He served much better and Djokovic was not able to break him more than once. The Serbian did not even try that hard as he simply served out the set with one break winning it 6-4.
The final set featured more aggresive play by Berankis as he tried something new and while at time it worked Novak was able to absord that play rather well. Berankis also commited quite a few errors which gave Djokovic an early double-break 4-0. In the 5th game Djokovic had another break point but Berankis held on to make it 4-1.
The Serbian closed out the match with 6-1 setting up a match with Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian is a tricky opponent and facing the world number one will be a proper challenge for him. Djokovic will embrace a challenge against a true clay-court specialist as well.
