Boris Becker has given his opinion on the upcoming Roland Garros by saying that Djokovic is not in the best shape to win the Roland Garros while Zverev could do it..
Boris Becker has been a vocal analyst in the world of tennis, not shying away from giving his opinions on many topics. With Roland Garros two weeks away Becker spoke to a tennis podcast where he gave his opinion on different player chances.
He said:
“I think (Stefanos) Tsitsipas is very strong, I think (Andrey) Rublev is very strong. Thiem is not in good shape for me yet. Something is not quite right. Djokovic also lost early in Monte Carlo and in Belgrade. He’s not in his (best shape) either. The tournament in Rome is extremely important for him.”
Speaking to the same podcast he was also asked about the chances of
Alexander Zverev to which he replied:
"I have him (Zverev) absolutely on the list that he can win (the French Open). Clearly, beating Nadal on clay in Spain – not everyone can do that.”
He was also asked what winning a major comes down to to which he replied:
“(Winning a major is) a question of little things, like the draw or the physique. How do you survive the first round? Who is your first high-ranked opponent?"
This upcoming Roland Garros will be a fascinating one to watch. Becker believes different players have a decent chance to win with some of the biggest favourites in shaky form including Nadal. Either way, it will be a special event with so much parity heading into it.
