Novak Djokovic is set to break a new record and surpass Roger Federer with the most weeks in the top 3 of the ATP Rankings. Nole currently leads the list of players with the most weeks at No. 1, holding 428 weeks between 2011 and 2024.

The dominance of the Big-3 over the last two decades makes it even more remarkable to stay within the top 3. Federer currently holds the record with 750 weeks, a number Djokovic matched this week by appearing as world No. 2, just behind Jannik Sinner, who has been at the top for 6 weeks.

Novak Djokovic on the verge of breaking Federer’s record for top-3 weeks

The Serbian tennis player lost the top spot in the rankings a few weeks ago and remains in second place, just over 1000 points behind Sinner. Djokovic faces a tough challenge in the weeks following the Olympics, as he will need to defend titles at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open in a year where he has yet to win a title.

Djokovic needs to secure good results in the upcoming weeks to stay on the podium, given the point gains of world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, thanks to winning the last two Grand Slams, and Sinner's consistency throughout the 2024 season.

On Monday, Djokovic is guaranteed to appear again as No. 2, marking his 751st week in the top 3, with 428 of those weeks at No. 1. This will move him ahead of Federer, who remains at 750 weeks (310 of them at No. 1). The third on the list is Rafael Nadal, with 686 weeks in the top 3

Nole is set to break a new record that reinforces his position as the greatest player in history, or at least the absolute dominator of most records in men's tennis history.

At the moment, Djokovic might lose his privileged ranking position in the coming weeks. He has four titles to defend by the end of the year, two of which are in the coming month. Djokovic seems to be getting back into form after reaching the Wimbledon final, although he was decisively defeated by Alcaraz 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

He has risen to No. 6 in the ATP Race, though for much of the year he was not even in the top 10. Currently, the Race podium includes Sinner, Alcaraz, and Zverev. Additionally, Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud also remain above Nole in terms of points earned in 2024.
