Novak Djokovic showed no signs of an injury on Saturday defeating
Milos Raonic in 4 sets to reach the
Australian Open quarterfinals.
Despite not showing any signs of an injury Novak Djokovic had to fight to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals as Raonic managed to snatch a set. Ultimately it was Novak who emerged victorious after just under three hours 7-6(4) 4-6 6-1 6-4.
The opening set was a proper battle of serves as neither player allowed much on their own serve. Raonic was very passive on Novak's serve barely attacking it at all focusing mainly on his own serve. Novak carved out one break point in two different games but the Canadian was calm. In the end, we saw a tiebreak where Novak proved the better player overall winning it 7-4. The 2nd saw both players face break points early but saving them with ease.
Raonic then took a medical timeout to bandage his ankle which was causing him troubles and soon started playing better even breaking Novak to take a lead which he converted to a 6-4 2nd set victory. It looked like the momentum was shifting but Djokovic started playing his best tennis yet completely crushing Raonic in the 3rd set which the Serbian won 6-1. The final set featured strong play from both players but neither had any chances to take a lead.
Late in the set, Novak made a strong push carving out two break points. Raonic saved the first but he could not the 2nd. It was the key moment as Novak ended it in the next game with 6-4. It was a spectacular display from the number one who recorder his 300th Grand Slam match win. Congratulations.
