Serena Williams overcame a very tough opponent in Aryna Sabalenka to find herself in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
It was a not easy but then again nobody expected it to be. It was the first meeting between two very good plaers and Serena Williams came out on top against Sabalenka who many favourred to win this match. After the match Serena said:
"It was obviously real important because I didn't want to be out of the tournament, so it felt good to kind of clutch that in the end and get through that."
And it was indeed clutch performance from the veteran who rallied back after a tough 2nd set to clinch it in the 3rd. She showed once again that she is still able to play her best tennis against the toughest of oppositions. She moved to her 13th Australian Open quarterfinal in a bid to wi her 24th Grand Slam title:
"I just felt like even games that I lost, I was so close to winning. Not all games, but probably most of those games. I just needed to play better on the big points. I knew that I could. I still hadn't reached my peak. I was like, 'Okay, Serena, you got this, just keep going.'"
It will not get any easier as she will face Simona Halep in the next round which is again a player capable of winning it all. Asked about the parity on the WTA tour right now she said:
"It's good. It's good to see. It's good to see that I'm in that mix, too."
