Novak Djokovic played a brilliant match to easily defeat Jan-Lennard Struff and level the score between Serbia and Germany to 1-1.
Novak Djokovic did what he was supposed to do by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in rather quick fashion. The win was an important one as he saved Serbia from a loss against Germany after Koepfer defeated Krajinovic earlier in the day. Djokovic's job is not done yet as he will have to play in the doubles as well in order to try and secure the win for his nation.
The game plan of Djokovic was very simple in this one, he was actively trying to shorten points fully aware that he will have double-duty today if he wins. He was able to keep the majority of points short as Struff really did not react well to Djokovic being the more aggressive player. The German tried a couple of styles both on return and on serve.
Neither worked particularly well as Djokovic was ready for all of them. The Serbian was quite deadly from the baseline as well punishing every short ball he saw. In those circumstances, Struff struggled and the first set lasted less than 30 minutes with Djokovic winning 6-2. The 2nd set feature more battle as Struff played more consistently but Djokovic was still on top.
The Serbian took an early 2-0 lead and from there he mostly focused on holding his serve. That worked as Struff rarely put any pressure on Djokovic and even when he did the Serbian had an aswer. Now he needs to do it again in the doubles.
