It's been a long wait for Juan Martin Del Potro who has worked extremely hard in order to come back to tennis. The Argentinian who has had a lot of injuries in his career has not played for close to two years as he worked his way slowly towards playing consistent tennis again. Del Potro has been training for months and should return in 2022.
Speaking to ESPN during the 2021 US Open he said:
“I love the challenge. This is the toughest match of my career because I cannot deal with these kind of injuries, this pain that I have now. But I’m still trying and trying. This is life. I believe in myself that this is going to be in the past for sure. But I think it’s also a message to the young kids, to all the players, to all the people around the world that they never have to give up following a dream and that’s what I’m doing with myself."
His former Davis Cup Captain Daniel Orsanic can't wait to see Del Potro back on the courts but he advised him to keep his expectations low. Speaking to La Pagina he said:
"Players like Juan Martín del Potro are so competitive that finishing ranked at No. 30 or No. 40 year probably won't satisfy them. If you told me that Juan Martín was going to play in 2022 and he would finish at No. 30, I would sign. The point is that I don't know if he would sign."
Orsanic clearly believes that Del Potro will push himself very hard and the former Captain sees danger in that cause it could result in another injury that most likely would mean the end of his career.
