Novak Djokovic had no issues against one of the better performing players in Tokyo Nishikori defeating him 6-2 6-0 and moving to the medal round.
Djokovic is now very close to the Olympic Games final as he is only one match away from being guaranteed a medal. Novak is obviously gunning for the gold medal and everything else would be a disappointment. If he plays like he did today he will get it. Nishikori came into this match with an abysmal 2-16 vs Djokovic and it showed why.
The Serbian's came is tailor-made to counter Nishikori who simply does not possess the power to break through the defence of Djokovic on a consistent basis. His precise shots are nullified by Novak's excellent court coverage and his serve is a delight for Djokovic.
All of that was on display today as Djokovic routinely won the first set with 6-2. The 2nd set was even more impressive by Djokovic who was simply having his way. Had he not committed 3 double faults the scoreline would have been even more glaring. In the end, Djokovic won it 6-0 to close out the very impressive match.
With the win, Djokovic tied Roger Federer for most wins at the Olympic Games ever which he can break with a win the semifinal. With this win, he guaranteed himself a chance to compete for the medals.
