After
Diego Schwartzman outplayed 12-time Roland Garros champion, Rafael Nadal, the first-seeded Novak Djokovic became the biggest favorite to win the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. However, he first needed to play against
Casper Ruud in order to be able to reach the final.
The young Norwegian had a very good start to the match. He converted the only break point he had in the third game and got a quick lead in the match. In the 10th game, he served for the set and even had 2 setpoints. However, Djokovic produced a streak of 6 won points and got the momentum to his side of the court.
He continued in a similar style in the following games to avoid 3 breakpoints of his opponent and converted his only setpoint in the 12th game to win the first set 7-5. The second set started with 6 unconverted breakpoints. The Serbian failed to convert 2 while his opponent failed four times.
However, Djokovic got 3 breakpoints in the 6th game of the set and converted the first one to get a 4-2 lead. He didn't lose that then and won the match 7-5, 6-3 to book the spot in the final of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. His final opponent will be
Denis Shapovalov or
Diego Schwartzman.
