After
Simona Halep defeated Garbine Muguruza in the first semifinal match, we saw an all-Czech semifinal at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. The second-seeded Karolina Pliskova took on the twelfth-seeded
Marketa Vondrousova in the fight for the spot in the final.
It was a one-woman story in the first set when the more experienced Pliskova had a total of 7 breakpoints while her opponent had only one. Although she converted only 2 out of 7 opportunities, that was enough for her to win the first set 6-2 in just 33 minutes.
In the second set, however, Vondrousova gave her a much better fight. She converted 2 out of 6 breakpoints, but that was still not enough. Pliskova broke her opponent three times to win the second set 6-4 and advance to the final in Rome.
