Simona Halep returns to a final after a great showing against Garbine Muguruza at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome.

Simona Halep played her best match yet in Rome in which she defeated an inspired Garbine Muguruza to book a spot in the final. Halep was considered the favourite heading into the match and while it wasn't as smooth as some though she ultimately pulled through.
The first set began very strong for Halep who broke the Spaniard immidietly in the 1st game. She would build on that lead to make it 2-0 before adding one more break later in the set to take a 5-1 lead. Muguruza rallied behind some strong baseline play to pull one break back but she would immidietly give it back to lose the 1st set 6-3. The 2nd set started off eerily similar to the 1st one with Halep being better and taking an early break which gave her a 3-1 lead.
That break by Halep started a series of 4 consecutive games where neither player could hold the serve. After that Muguruza had a chance to get back into the match and she did so to make it 4-4. In the next game Halep played some bad rallies and Muguruza got a break point chance which she took. She went on to close the set out with a solid service game 6-4.
The final set was anybodies really as Muguruza had the momentum on her side but Halep played better overall. And at the start, she was the better one once again taking an early 4-0 lead. It looked all over but Garbine had something to say and she pulled one back to make it 4-1 before losing her serve once more to make it 5-1. Halep had a chance to end it there but she failed a gave Muguruza a lifeline which she took to make it 5-3.
Halep served for the match once more but again failed to win it on her own serve making it 5-4. Customary to this match Muguruza failed to win her serve and gave Halep the win 6-4. An extremely good match from both players but Halep proved more concrete in key moments. She continues her march towards another trophy.
