Novak Djokovic is officially out of BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells 2022 after he couldn't gain approval to enter the US
Djokovic was in the Entry List until the draw which was conducted on Tuesday evening with the tournament organisers saying that it was not yet determined whether he will get CDC approval to enter the country.
He has now confirmed in a statement on his Twitter page that this approval wasn't forthcoming with the CDC confirming the regulations surrounding unvaccinated people coming into the US will not be changing.
This also means he has withdrawn from the
Miami Open which forms part of the Sunshine Double.
"While I was automatically listed in the
Indian Wells and Miami Open draw I knew it would be unlikely I’d be able to travel. The CDC has confirmed that regulations won’t be changing so I won't be able to play in the US. Good luck to those playing in these great tournaments," he wrote.
Grigor Dimitrov now takes over as second seed and a lucky loser will replace Dimitrov in the draw.
