Laura
Urruti, the wife of
Nicolas Jarry, shared some adorable pictures of their
20-month-old son Juan, who has inherited the family's love for tennis and is
exploring Barcelona with his racquet.
The Chilean
player experienced a remarkable ascent in the rankings, climbing from world No.
155 at the beginning of the season to the year-end ranking of No. 19. With
victories at the ATP 250 Santiago Open and Geneva Open, Jarry established
himself as a formidable player on the Tour, creating numerous memorable moments
with his son throughout the year.
The Chilean
couple tied the knot in 2020, and their eldest son, Juan Jarry, was born in
April 2022. In August of the same year, they welcomed their second child,
Santiago. In a video shared by Urruti, the elder son Juan is seen strolling the
streets of Barcelona with a Wilson Junior Minion racket. "And yes, he
doesn't think about leaving his racquet for a second," she wrote.
Remarkable
2023
At 27 years
old, Nicolas Jarry faced a year without a ranking in 2021 due to a suspension
for an alleged doping violation, which was eventually attributed to
cross-contamination, reducing the suspension to 11 months. The Chilean made a
strong comeback, reentering the top 100 and achieving a career-high ranking of
No. 20 in October. He concluded the season with a 38-19 record and prize money
of $1,925,489.
In addition
to his two titles, Jarry reached the semifinals of the ATP 500 Rio Open (losing
to Carlos Alcaraz), achieved his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal at the
Shanghai Open, and delivered his best Grand Slam performances, reaching the
second round at the Australian Open, the third round at the US Open and
Wimbledon, and the fourth round at Roland Garros.
Jarry’s
2024 season
Nicolas Jarry
will kick off the 2024 season in Australia, leading Chile in the United Cup,
with his grandfather Jaime Fillol as the captain (former world No. 14 and
two-time French Open doubles finalist). The Chilean team will also feature
Tomas Barrios Vera, Daniela Seguel, Gonzalo Lama, and Fernanda Labrana.
Following
the team tournament, Jarry will head to the Adelaide Open, starting on January
8, and the following week, he will be in the main draw of the Australian Open
as one of the seeded players (currently world No. 19).
