Just like Wawrinka's, Dominic Thiem's comeback in Marbella ends after one match, as the top seed loses in the 1st round to Pedro Cachin, 6-3, 6-4.
Austrian tennis superstar Dominic Thiem returned to tennis this week in Marbella but his return was short-lived as he lost to Cachin 6-3 6-4.
Just like Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem returned to Marbella after missing close to one year of action. The Austrian has been in rehab due to his wrist injury that he re-injured twice before finally returning. He was very careful not to rush the return this time and despite the result, he will be glad he got one match in without injuring or feeling pain in his wrist.
The start of the match showed just how difficult it is to overcome a lengthy absence as Thiem quickly found himself down 0-5. He found rhythm a bit later to pull back a couple of breaks but it was not enough to overcome the huge deficit and Cachin won the opening set with 6-3.
The start of the 2nd set opened with Thiem dropping his serve once more with Cachin looking firmly in control. The Austrian played rather solid in the 2nd set but he never really put enough pressure on his opponent to take his serve. The Argentinian cruised and finished off the match with 6-4. A good effort from Theim but his road to a full comeback will be long and thorny.
