Dominic Thiem like Emma Raducanu who were the two respective big names in next week's
Australian Open qualifying has received a main draw boost in the ATP Entry List with
Reilly Opelka withdrawing.
Thiem, a former US Open champion who faced off against Rafael Nadal in his comeback match this past week at the Brisbane International has mainly struggled with injuries and returning to any semblance of form that saw him become a Grand Slam champion.
While he has shown glimmers, he struggled for instance in qualifying for Brisbane before facing Nadal with only a venomous snake coming on court saving him from a potential loss to James McCabe. He came back to win the tie after time off court and had his nine lives before facing the Spaniard.
This comes though with further woes for Reilly Opelka with the American again not able to return to the court. Signs were shown with him pulling out of Adelaide after making a low key Challenger return at the end of the season. He has had injuries on his hip and wrist and these seem to continue to blight him despite saying towards the back end of last season that he had fully recovered. Not enough to return to Australia it seems with Thiem now taking his spot.
