The
US Open announced wild card entrants to the main draw for the 2022 edition of the event and former champion
Dominic Thiem is one of them.
Thiem played some decent tennis on clay this year but it was not good enough for him to improve his ranking enough to avoid the qualifiers. That is why they even decided to give him a wild card entry to have him play his first US Open since he won it in 2020.
Other ATP players that received wild cards are Sam Querrey, Emilion Nava, J.J. Wolf, Ben Shelton, Learner Tien, Ugo Humbert and Rinky Hijakata. A pretty decent mix of native players as well as some struggling ones like Ugo Humbert.
Venus Williams headlines the list of US Open
WTA wild card recipients with others being
Sofia Kenin, CoCo Vandeweghe, Elizabeth Mandlik, Peyton Stearns and Eleana Yu, as well as Australia's Jaimee Fourlis and France's Harmony Tan who defeated Serena Williams at Wimbledon.
