Dominic Thiem not happy to face Matteo Berrettini in 2021 opener

Dominic Thiem will play against Matteo Berrettini in the opening match of the 2021 season, and the Austrian is not happy about it.

Although the two have a very good friendship, Dominic Thiem knows that Matteo Berrettini is a difficult opponent and that it will be difficult to make a step closer to the victory for Austria in the opening tie of the 2021 ATP Cup.

The two met already 4 times on the ATP Tour with both winning 2 matches. In 2020, they met on two exhibition tournaments, and it was Thiem who prevailed in those two. Ahead of the first tie, the Austrian said:

“We have a very good relationship, always fun matches against each other,” Thiem said of the Matteo Berrettini. “But he's a big, big player, so I'm also not too happy that he's the first guy I have to face in a new year after quite a while without an official match. It's going to be interesting. I hope the guy next to me is putting away some pressure for me.”
