A couple of months after finally returning from his wrist injury, Dominic Thiem secured his maiden ATP-tour win in Bastad over Ruusuvuori 3-6 6-1 7-6(5).
It's been some very tough months for Dominic Thiem since his return from injury. He played very lacklustre tennis overall but today he finally scored his first ATP-tour level win over Emil Ruusuvuori. It was a match that started badly for Thiem who dropped the opening set 3-6. The score looks better than it really was because he was down 5-1.
It was just the typical struggle with everything in his game showcased by a very high number of unforced errors. He was able to establish control over his shots in the 2nd set smashing his opponent 6-1. He was greatly helped by his opponent who had numerous unforced errors and struggled with his serve as well.
The final set was a roller coaster that ended in a tiebreak and obviously, it was Thiem who got it. The Austrian fell behind 2-0 to start the set but battled back not long after that even taking a lead with a break. He would give it right back after some heavy battling in one game that saw both players squander big chances. The tiebreak was better by Thiem who went for it and it worked.
